Launches: Credible Exit, Bridged User Notifications, & Fediverse Re-Bridge
Today, we’re announcing a bunch of migration features and improvements across Bridgy Fed and Bounce. The main goal we had with these latest updates was to make it so people can migrate in every direction possible across ecosystems while reducing the friction of migrating while using our services.
The biggest news? We now support every kind of migration on all the networks Bridgy Fed supports (including web!): into Bridgy Fed, out of it, through it, and around it, all while keeping you connected with your people.
Let's dive in!
Credible Exit From Bridgy Fed
Up until now, you’ve had the ability to toggle Bridgy Fed on and off, or use Bounce to swap protocols over the bridge. But Bridgy Fed is not the only multi-protocol service out there, and we believe people should be able to choose and change their mind about how they want to connect across protocols.
Today, we’re rolling out a feature on the Bridgy Fed settings page that allows you to take the account that lives in Bridgy Fed and migrate to a native one.
If you’re bridging from the Atmosphere to the Fediverse, you can migrate the bridged account to Mastodon; if you’re bridging from the Fediverse to the Atmosphere, you can migrate the bridged account to any PDS of your choice. After that, you’ll have two native accounts that you can choose to use separately, or migrate them into a service like Wafrn that lets you use both protocols with one account.
Your accounts, your choice.
Bridged User Notifications
Right now, when you Bounce, you get to keep all your followers, but you no longer get to see people you used to follow who aren’t bridged to your new native platform. But what if the person eventually decides to bridge? Or maybe they Bounce to your native platform and you can now re-follow them?
We also allow you to request that a user bridges themselves on other ecosystems. But, similarly, when they bridge, how do you find out?
Well, from now on, when someone you used to follow on the other side of the bridge or someone you’ve requested to bridge is available on your native platform, we send you a notification over DMs. From there, you can jump to their profile and follow them.
No more losing connections, and no more having to randomly discover that someone you care about is now followable on your native platform.
Fediverse Re-Bridge
If you’ve ever moved your Fediverse account across instances, you may have realized that your bridged account is no longer connected to your profile. This can be frustrating, as you may have accumulated a whole social graph on the Atmosphere and you don’t have access to..
No longer! From now on, we track your Fediverse moves and automatically migrate your bridged account with it. No action needed on your side – we handle all the work, and you can keep posting across the bridge to all your followers on the Atmosphere.
Thank you!
We know some of these are features people have wanted for a while, so we’re excited to finally roll these out. Migrations are a core part of the open social web, and we want to make sure we simplify that process for you as much as possible.
Once again, a huge thank you to our community who consistently share gaps in our tools and help us improve the Bridgy Fed and Bounce experiences.
